The Children’s Legend is a collection of drawings and poems created in the Lodz Ghetto. The drawings were found after the war, buried under the ruins of the ghetto. In the Lodz Ghetto children were forced to work from the age of 10. The Legend was probably used as background scenery for a play, performed in one of the factories in the ghetto. The Legend was written for children in order to encourage them not to be afraid of sewing.
Look at the drawing from the Legend: The sewing machine, the scissors, the thread and the needle are all drawn bigger than the children. Why do you think they were drawn this way?
Hint: remember Israel’s testimony.
The reel of thread has a smiling, pleasant face. Why is that?
