Moon Landscape

In 2005, 60 years after the end of world war II, an asteroid was named after Peter Ginz. In the same year, a stamp was issued in the Czech republic, with one of Ginz’s drawings, “Moon Landscape”.

Who was Peter Ginz? Why is he famous?

Peter Ginz was a Jewish boy from Czechoslovakia. Peter was a very talented boy, he dreamt of trips to the oceans and into space. When he was 13 years old, he was sent with his family to the Theresienstadt Ghetto. In the ghetto, he continued to draw, wrote a diary and even edited a children’s newspaper called “Vedem”. Peter did not survive the Holocaust.
