“I wasn’t ashamed of the yellow star…”

Bilha Shefer was born in Germany in 1932. In this testimony she describes how she wore the yellow star for the first time.

Bilha was proud to wear the yellow star out in the street. Unlike Ruth who felt humiliated.

Why do you think the two girls have such different feelings about the yellow star, in your opinion?

“… I remember we were two friends. On the first day we went out with that star, we also took out our necklaces (my friend also had a necklace with a Shield of David). And we walked that way, proudly of being Jewish! I was not ashamed of the yellow star. I was proud!”
