Tommy’s Album

Here is one of the drawings in Tommy’s album:

Click on two items in the drawing, that symbolize freedom and life outside the walls of the ghetto.

The tree represents the longing for open nature. The ghettos hardly had any trees or plants in them.

The bird symbolizes the freedom outside the ghetto. The bird is able to fly anywhere, unconstrained by walls and fences.

Click the item which signifies the fact Tommy does not have a home anymore.

The suitcase symbolizes the temporary nature of life in the ghetto, which had never become a true home. The suitcase also stands for the longing to leave the ghetto and go back home.
